The Board of Directors and staff of the Canadian Institute for Non-destructive Evaluation (CINDE) would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to those affected by the destructive wildfires in Fort McMurray (Fort Mac) and the surrounding areas. Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of brave firefighters, the fires are now largely under control. However, it still leaves massive devastation in its aftermath that will require months of work to repair. We express our deepest sympathy to all who have experienced any loss during such a difficult time. To those who have been evacuated or relocated, we are glad that you are safe and hope your lives can return to normal as soon as possible.

To that end, as Canada’s national NDT Society we are offering our support to our members, families and loved ones through the CINDE “Members for Fort Mac” campaign whereby CINDE will match the donations made by members/visitors to the Red Cross Fort McMurray Relief Fund to a maximum of $100 per individual donation.  Members/visitors can upload a scan of their donation receipt by logging into their CINDE Member/Visitor area. Donations to the Red Cross are also being matched by the Federal and Provincial Governments. To see how the Red Cross will use their donation money, please see this article.

The loss that has occurred is heartbreaking and we know that it will take time for the Fort McMurray community to recover,” notes Kevin Woit, National Chair of CINDE. “However, the NDT community has been very active, supportive, and helpful in providing assistance to those in need."

Glenn Tubrett, the interim CEO of CINDE agrees, stating “We have seen social media sites flooded with offers of help and support from companies and individuals: from providing the use of their facilities and homes, to donations.  We hope that our members/visitors will come together to help those in Fort McMurray. This is what this campaign is all about - members helping others in the NDT community in Fort Mac.”

With the ongoing assistance and support of such a caring community, those affected in Fort McMurray can start to rebuild their lives and overcome what will be known as one of the most destructive wildfires in Canadian history. Log into your CINDE Member/Visitor area now and upload your Red Cross Receipt to help contribute even more!
