As of January 1, 2019, Mohawk College will become a tobacco and smoke-free campus.  The following excerpts  are taken from Mohawk's Smoke Free Q&A weblink:
Why has Mohawk decided to become smoke-free?
Mohawk is committed to providing a healthy and safe learning and working environment for students, employees and visitors to the college. Becoming a smoke-free environment supports this commitment and aligns with other colleges and universities, including McMaster University who became smoke-free in January 2018. Many hospitals and municipal buildings have also gone smoke-free.
What does a smoke-free campus mean?
This means that starting January 1, 2019 smoking in any form including tobacco, vaping, e-cigarettes (or other devices), and cannabis products, will not be permitted anywhere on Mohawk College property. This includes the Fennell and Stoney Creek Campuses, the Student Residence (including private residence rooms and all common-areas) and all satellite campus locations. This is consistent with the rules governing other campuses in Canada. For example, the Institute for Applied Health Sciences at McMaster University became smoke-free on January 1, 2018.
Who does this apply to?
The smoke-free policy applies to all members of the College community, including but not limited to all employees, students, including continuing education and apprenticeship students, visitors, contractors, independent operators and student government representatives on all College owned, rented, or leased property or vehicles. This policy also applies to any persons or groups renting or making use of College facilities.
Can employees and students smoke in their personal vehicle while on Mohawk College property?
No. Smoking will not be permitted on any College property. This includes smoking in personal vehicles parked on college property.
Will there be designated smoking areas on campus?
No. The existing smoking shelters will be removed and effective January 1, 2019 there will be no smoking on any Mohawk campus.
